warm up

Stretch and warm up the various muscle parts to ensure the risk of injury will be kept to a minimum

Balloon taps

Every pupil should have a balloon. They must run and “tap” the balloon with their hands to avoid the balloon touching the floor. As they progress, they must move around trying to tap the balloon with their racket hand only.

Backhand thumb grip with balloon

Look closely at how the coach demonstrates the thumb grip. Otherwise, imagine yourself looking at the time of your watch while doing so! Working with a balloon and a racket, children are asked to keep balloon up in the air with the back of hand leading and moving up and away from the body.

FOREHAND HANDSHAKE grip with balloon

This is the basic (“V”) aka Handshake grip. Working with a balloon and a racket, children are asked to keep balloon up in the air with the basic grip.
